Evacuations were ordered in Sequatchie County for the Bluff View and Fredonia Mountain Nature Resort areas after wildfires erupted on Sunday (March 24, 2024). Evacuation Centers were set up in Dunlap at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Southend Volunteer Fire Department and the Sequatchie County Rescue Squad. The American Red Cross ERV was on site as well. On Facebook, the Sequatchie County – Dunlap Chamber of Commerce said that firefighters from across the Valley were fighting structure and land fires on four separate mountains. Food and drink donations began arriving at the Dunlap Rescue Squad to feed more than 100 people. As of 9:12pm the Woodcock Road blaze had grown to 450 acres and was 50% contained as crews continued to battle the blaze and much needed rain fell across the region. The Smith Mountain Road fire was 50% contained and the Ridgeland Trail Road blaze was 100% contained.
