A Fairfield Glade resident reported falling victim to a scam after receiving a call from individuals claiming to be with Microsoft. The scammers convinced him there were issues with his computer and tricked him into granting remote access to his computer. They manipulated him into believing he had accidentally transferred $6,099 instead of $6.99 for payment of services and persuaded him to buy $3,000 in gift cards and withdraw another $3,000 in cash to correct the mistake. The victim reported a total loss of $5,000 and stated his computer files were also compromised. Police advised him to secure his accounts, change all passwords, and file a report with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
