Two shades of orange met in Atlanta Georgia for the Aflac Kickoff on Saturday with #24 Tennessee taking on Syracuse in their season opener. It was all Tennessee in the contest and the Volunteers crushed the Orange from New York 45-26.
New quarterback Joey Aguilar fit right in with the Volunteer system throwing 3 touchdowns with 248 yards in the air. Aguilar also ran for 34 yards on the ground. The leading rusher for Tennessee was Star Thomas with 91 yards, other backs Peyton Lewis and DeSean Bishop had one touchdown each and ran for 82 yards and 38 yards respectively. The Volunteer defense picked up where they left off last season as well. The Vols got to Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli with 5 sacks, and also forced two turnovers one of those being a fumble returned for a touchdown.
