Students from South Cumberland Elementary School made a strong impression last week at the Eastern Region 4-H Family & Consumer Sciences Skill-A-Thon, held in McMinn County.

Competing alongside students from six other Tennessee counties, South Cumberland’s 4-H participants tackled hands-on challenges in cooking and food safety, sewing, interior design, and real-world problem-solving. Their efforts were supported through practice sessions led by Cumberland County 4-H Agent Taunee Whittenbarger and CTE teacher Julie Wyatt.

Among the highlights:

  • Junior Team A—Myla B., Sadie P., and Reagan R.—took 1st place in their division.

  • All five junior team members, including Lucy H. and Wyatt L., earned recognition as High Individuals.

  • In the Junior High division, Avery W. placed 8th overall among individuals, while her team—alongside Lydia B. and Kinsley W.—finished 7th.

  • Additional teams placed 6th and 11th, showcasing the depth of talent across the board.

After the event, students celebrated their hard work with a well-earned group lunch. Cumberland County 4-H commended the students for their preparation, teamwork, and enthusiasm.
