Another bear has been discovered eating human remains; this time in Jellico, Tennessee. WVLT reports that Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputies had been sent to a home near 4667 Highway 25 in Jellico for a welfare check. Upon arrival, they found a bear eating human remains in the back yard. Officials believe the person was dead before the bear discovered the body. The remains have been sent for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The bear ran into a wooded area when officers arrived on the scene and on Wednesday TWRA set a trap for the animal. The incident is under joint investigation by TWRA, The Campbell Co. Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

On September 11, hikers in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park found a camper dead and a bear nearby. The discovery was made at a campsite in the Hazel Creek area on the North Carolina side of the park. When rangers arrived to retrieve the body, the bear was actively feeding on the remains. Rangers euthanized the bear for public safety.
