Charges are pending against the driver of a stolen car involved in a 3-vehicle accident on I-40 in Cumberland County. It happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday at the 309 eastbound mile marker and injured four people. Sergeant Ronnie Simmons reports that 20-year-old Brendon J. Prettyman, of Seiverville, Tennessee was fleeing in a stolen 2016 Ford Fusion when he drove onto the shoulder passing a tractor-trailer and then entered the truck’s lane, which caused the truck to drive into the left lane where a 2016 Hyundai Elantra was traveling. The tractor-trailer and the Eleantra both drove through a guardrail, went down an embankment, and struck some standing trees. The Fusion also struck the guardrail. Truck driver Matthew Parker Cooper, 45, of Andrews, South Carolina was taken to Cumberland Medical Center as were the occupants of the Elantra, driver Stephen R. Lanham, age 54, and passenger, Rebecca Lanham, age 40, both of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The driver of the stolen Ford was also injured and taken to CMC and reports say charges are pending against Mr. Prettyman.
