BOE approves cheerleader trip to Florida

In a 6-2 vote, the Cumberland County Board of Education gave reluctant approval to a request by the CCHS cheerleaders to travel to Disney World in February, despite possible risks. Several board members were conflicted in their vote, but decided that since previous approval had been given to a basketball program, it was only fair to allow the cheerleading squad to go as well. The squad will be competing in the National Cheer Competition at the ESPN Wide World of Sports and Pop Century Resort in Orlando in February. Meghan McDonald, CCHS cheer sponsor, noted that all participants will be following CDC, as well as resort and competition guidelines in regard to social distancing and mask requirements.
