A young woman and a small child died early Monday morning in Madison County when the woman reportedly jumped from an overpass onto I-40 while holding the child. Sheriff’s deputies were called to a Shell gas station just south of I-40 exit 93 after 24-year-old Tonisha Lashay Barker allegedly tried to hit a gas pump. Authorities say Barker got out of the car and walked to the overpass and jumped off with the toddler in her arms. They hit a westbound truck and were found deceased on the roadway. News outlets report that Barker’s relatives have identified the child as 21-months-old Johnathan Jones. Authorities did not immediately state the child’s relationship to Barker.
