Two people were arrested after their car reportedly crashed into the No. 5 gas pump at the Speedway on West Avenue in Crossville. It happened around 2:20 Friday morning (1/22/2021). Crossville police say that the driver, 40-year-old Elsie Renee Jacques, of Crossville, told them that she was arguing with her passenger, 25-year-old Carl Sherrill. Police say there was a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and that Ms. Jacques had slurred speech and red watery eyes. As Mr. Sherrill was exiting the vehicle, police observed a Glock pistol with 15 rounds in the passenger floor board. Police say Mr. Sherrill also had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. Ms. Jacques was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Mr. Sherrill was arrested for possession of a loaded handgun while intoxicated. Both were taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
