(VEC/Peg Broadcasting News)
Volunteer Energey Cooperative issued an update at Noon Central on Sunday to report 6,900 customers out of power. In less than an hour, crews had restored power to more than 1,700 VEC members. Overnight parts of Fentress and Cumberland counties got six to ten inches of snow. This afternoon, streets and roads remain in bad condition making it difficult to get to problem areas. VEC crews are waiting on more plows and right of way crews to clear areas. There are many spans of power lines and poles down. Due to the sheer volume of damage, there is not an ETA on power restoration at this time. Crews will continue to work until all power is restored. For those with health concerns and without another source of heat, please make plans for an extended outage. VEC will continue to update as we have information.
