A 17-year-old boy was injured Thursday after jumping over 80 feet into a swimming hole at Fall Creek Falls State Park. Dunlap Fire Department rope rescue responded to a mutual aid request from Piney Volunteer Fire Department after the minor dove off the top of Caney Creek Falls and approximately 85 feet to the water below. The teen received severe but non- life threatening injuries. Park Rangers went below and carried the patient to a tension high line haul system setup by responders. The patient was transported by Van Buren County EMS to a nearby hospital in Bledsoe County.
This is the second time in less that a week that someone was injured jumping from Caney Creek Falls. A woman in her 20’s jumped Memorial Day and emergency crews had to pull her out. She was flown to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.
Officials say no one should ever attempt to jump from Caney Creek Falls.
