Tennessee’s abortion “trigger law” is set to go into effect on August 25, 2022. The new law will ban almost all abortions, including those in cases of rape, incest, or no chance of a live birth. Tennessee’s “trigger law” provides a narrow exception to protect the life of the mother, or to prevent serious risk of “substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function.” Doctors who provide illegal abortions face felony charges.
