Cookeville High School Put On Lockdown Wednesday, 18-Year-Old Student To Be Charged For Filing A False Report

Cookeville High School was put on lockdown Wednesday and an 18-year-old student now faces charges for making a false threat.  According to a Press Release from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, shortly after noon on Wednesday, the Cookeville Police Department received a call from a  local crisis center.  There had been a computer-generated hotline chat with a female student who claimed she wanted to harm herself.  The SRO Deputy at Cookeville High School immediately located the student and began investigating.  During the initial stages, Cookeville High School was placed on lockdown out of caution until the student was found. Law enforcement verified there was no threat at Cookeville High School regarding this event.  At no time were students and faculty in danger at Cookeville High School.  Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division continued the investigation.  The investigation revealed that the Cookeville High School student who was located admitted to making false statements which triggered this event. During the chat with Crisis, the student also said she possessed a firearm, which was a false and ” made-up ” statement.  The student is over 18 years of age and will be charged as an adult for Filing a False Report, a Class C Felony.
