A large fire in downtown Gatlinburg has claimed the life of one person and injured another. The blaze was first reported around 6:40 Sunday morning and the Gatlinburg Fire Department was dispatched to the 700 block of Parkway. Crews have found one person deceased inside of the structure. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity. A firefighter also suffered minor injuries but has since been released from the hospital. Firefighters battled to contain the blaze Sunday and were still on the scene Monday morning putting out hot spots. WVLT reports the businesses affected by the fire include Puckers Sports Bar, China Bazaar, Cafe 420, and Gifts of Gatlinburg. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
