Police say a three-year-old girl in Algood suffered a “self-inflicted” gunshot wound and was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center Thursday afternoon. It happened shortly before 1pm and the child’s parents were reportedly home at the time of the shooting. Authorities did not give an update on the child’s condition nor did they say how the child got ahold of the firearm. Even though the shooting was not related to a nearby school, officials placed the school on soft lockdown. The Algood Police Department said the investigation into the incident is ongoing at this time.
